Description This project can also be an internship!

Excessive algae growth threatens the delicate balance on coral reef ecosystems. Within the Reef Grazer Research group, we study how we can utilize grazing invertebrates, such as sea urchins, crabs and snails, to remove algae and improve reef health. Main topics are grazer cultivation, the impact of native grazers on algae, corals, and other benthic groups, using grazers to increase the efficacy of coral restoration, and the feasibility of restocking grazers for both coral restoration and to sustain fisheries.

The coming years, we'll conduct social and ecological research, including field and lab research. We have 5 researchers on-site and room for 5-8 BSc and MSc students. Some, but not all, internship and thesis positions include diving. Every student has her/his own sub-project within our program. In addition, students contribute to the other projects conducted at the lab.

For examples of our research, please have a look at the just finished Diadema I project: https://www.vhluas.com/research/research-projects/diadema/.

Internship/thesis students get a compensation of 300 euro per month. They must arrange their own flight, accommodation, and dive gear (if applicable).
