Description | Photogrammetry models offer the potential to study marine sessile organisms in great detail outside the water. Three dimensional models allow for calculation of biometric data that is highly valuable for eco-physiological research. For example volume and surface area of coral colonies, sponges etc. In this specific project you are working on video files of five individual sponges of the species Anoxycalyx joubini from Ross Island, Antarctica. The goal is to build high resolution 3D models and extract information such as total volume of the individual, surface area, osculum diameter and area. The outcome should be high quality models and an excel sheet with the biometric information that can be used for further calculations of physiological parameters. At the same time you are highly encouraged to investigate the current development of the technology and propose additional forms of analysis of the sponge models. |
