Description | In this internship, you will get training in Wageningen and spent some months in the Umea Plant Science Centre, Sweden, to do your experiments. If you love insect-plant relationships, snow and cinnamon buns this might be the perfect internship for you! :)
In the project, we will evaluate the impact of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria on the growth and signaling of defense responses of potatoes under above and below-ground stress conditions within a dual stress setup in green house conditions. Evaluating the reference and performance of stress agents (aphids and nematodes) allows validation of resistance mechanisms against these pests. The study will integrate several physiological, biochemical and molecular methodologies to phenotype changes in potato growth. Susceptibility to aphids will be assessed through population development studies including mortality, and reproductive rate and complemented by feeding behavioral responses measured with Electronic Penetration Graph (EPG) recording. Furthermore, hormonal assessments and metabolomics analyses will be performed to reveal resistance compounds which provided insight into the molecular mechanisms behind the resistance provided by rhizobacteria. |
