Description | How do personality and social bonds influence breeding cohesion and distribution in zebra finches? In this unique experimental set-up, zebra finches will have access to multiple aviaries, giving them the freedom to choose where to 'hang out' and breed (e.g. all together or more isolated, close or far away from food resources). In this way, this aviary experiment will be the closest mimic of the natural situation so far. Together with a fellow student, you will help us examine the important determinants of nesting location and general space use by quantifying individual feeder visits and movements between aviaries using PIT readers. Standardized personality tests will be used to determine personality type (aggression). Both students will work together but will have their individual research questions to address. |
