Description Managed honeybees are being used for honey production and crop pollination. However, due to their large numbers, they sometimes outcompete wild pollinators for the scarce flower resources during summer. Buckwheat is a mass-flowering crop that is increasingly being cultivated close to nature reserves, and is very attractive to honeybees. In this research, we want to explore the potential of buckwheat culitvation to lure honeybees out of nature areas in Drenthe, Friesland and Groningen. The research is in collaboration with WENR, Staatsbosbeheer en Land van Ons. For this project you will stay in a holiday house in Drenthe from mid-June to the middle of August, and you will monitor wild bees and hoverflies in nature areas. A driving licence is therefore essential, and a car is beneficial (but not required).
