Description What does Amsterdam have to deal with? Due to climate change and urbanization, Amsterdam suffers from heat and water stress, because there is often more asphalt than greenery. This creates a 'heat island effect' in the city and can lead to urban floods.

Nature-based solutions (NBS) are crucial for addressing urban heat and floods due to their ability to regulate air and surface temperatures and runoff . By incorporating elements like trees, green spaces, green roofs and walls, and water bodies into urban environments, NBS mitigate the urban heat island effect, manage stormwater, increase resilience to climate change, and promote energy efficiency.

In this thesis you will learn how to apply NbS in micro-scale urban hydrometeorological model (ENVI-met) in order to mitigate urban heat and water issues in Amsterdam. Model data will be validated using observational measurements from Amsterdam urban climate network.
