Description | Would you like to contribute to a better world by improving the implementation and establishment of (new) natural enemies in greenhouse systems? Then this thesis/internship position is perfect for you!
The position will take place at WUR Greenhouse Horticulture & Flower Bulbs in Bleiswijk. In Bleiswijk we have a sub-team of 16 people working specifically on biological pest control. We conduct many different experiments, from laboratory scale to greenhouse compartments and at commercial greenhouse growers. In the internship/thesis you will contribute to a larger research project that focuses on identifying new bankerplant systems with alternative aphid species that can sustain a variety of different aphid natural enemies in greenhouses. Within this project we collaborate with growers (sweet pepper, gerbera & rose) and a biocontrol company. The internship/thesis will consist of laboratory and greenhouse trials with existing and new biocontrol agents. For 2 species of ladybird beetles you will test their development and survival on different (alternative) aphid species and alternative food sources. Additionally, you will participate in a greenhouse trial in which several banker plants with specific aphid species will be screened on their suitability and attractiveness for the aphid midge Aphidoletes aphidimyza. This internship is a great opportunity to work at a multidisciplinary research institute with knowledge on every aspect of the greenhouse sector. If you are interested in the project or would like to know more about it, please contact Marjolein Kruidhof (marjolein.kruidhof@wur.nl). |
