Description | Forest management has both positive and negative effects on soil processes, resilience and climate change mitigation potential. Therefore long-term monitoring is crucial to confirm which management practices are efficient in increasing carbon sequestration in forest soils and reducing GHG emission. For the HoliSoils project (https://holisoils.eu), we established three experimental sites across the Netherlands where we monitor soil CO2 gas fluxes, soil temperature & moisture since May 2022.
The measurements indicate large differences between the sites in reaction to the dry summer of 2022, connected to differences in vegetation cover in the different treatments. We are looking for someone who can help us analyze collected respiration data, explore observed patterns in relation to soil temperature and moisture, and assist in fieldwork at the monitoring sites.
