Description | Fieldwork starts end of September/beginning of October
Birds are particularly susceptible to temperature, especially during incubation. Both nest attendance and parental care, increase offspring survival, but are costly to the parents. Incubating birds may therefore compromise nest attendance in response to temperature and ultimately abandon nests. Determining how reproductive investment in response to temperature affects the reproductive output, is important to understand species-specific responses to climate warming. In Oct-Nov we will therefore set out to assess the relationship between temperature, nest attendance and offspring condition/growth in the dark-capped bulbul (Pycnonotus tricolor). The project includes 3 months fieldwork in the stunning Mbuluzi Game Reserve, a typical African savanna habitat. |
