| Description | This research includes field and laboratory work on-site at NIOZ-Texel. This includes working with research assistants on the SIBES (Synoptic Intertidal Benthic Survey) ecological time series – the largest and longest-running sampling of inter-tidal mudflats worldwide. This work could include a one- to two-week summer research cruise on the RV Navicula in the Wadden Sea. Laboratory experiments will be performed using thermal gradient tables and you will learn methods of measuring the physiology (energetics) of common macrozoobenthic organisms such as blue mussel (Mytilus edulis) and responses to stessors such as heatwaves. Ideal start date is June 2023 for opportunity to join field research cruises in July / August but starting in September also possible. One to two MSc research topics can be planned.
