Description | This research includes field and laboratory work on-site at NIOZ-Texel. This includes working with research assistants on the daily monitoring of fish catches in our coastal fyke survey (one of the longest-running time series on marine fish in Northern Europe). You will learn fish otolith microstructure analysis to calculate individual growth rates and/or fish dissection and proximate analysis to understand seasonal energy allocation. Statistical explorations of the long-term data set are also possible. The research will focus on commercially and ecologically important species such as European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) and Atlantic herring (Clupea harengus) of other species. The ideal start date is September 2023 but work could start sooner. At least two MSc theses can be planned.
