Description Support of local communities is essential for upscaling ecological restoration. Environmental education and citizen science projects can facilitate local participation, strengthen community ties with nature, and contribute to promote social capital for ecological restoration.

We are looking for three MSc students interested in contributing to develop small pilots on citizen science and environmental education. The work is part of the WaterLANDS project, an EU-funded project focusing on wetland restoration in Europe. Each student will work in one wetland/country, collaborating with local partners in conducting the citizen science (or educational) project and (assists in) assessing changes in environmental perception on target groups. Additional measurements on environmental factors is possible.

Work will take place during spring-summer 2023 in:
1) the peatlands of the Great North Bog (Yorkshire, UK),
2) peatlands of Parnu (Estonia) and
3) salt marshes of Venice Lagoon (Italy).

We encourage applicants to submit an Erasmus application for the exchange of students within European countries.

For your internship you would be working closely together with local partners, requiring a flexible and diplomatic mindset, willingness to listen and good communication skills.

If you are interested, please contact Dr. Juul Limpens (juul.limpens@wur.nl) and Dr. Milena Holmgren (milena.holmgren@wur.nl) from chair-groups PEN and WEC respectively.
