Description Het gedragsonderzoek wordt gedaan aan 2 groepen oranjevleugelamazones (amazona amazonica) waarvan 1 groep warmtelampen krijgt. Het is een opdracht van het Nederlandse ministerie, op onderzoeklocatie Erica in Drenthe (World of Birds, opvanglocatie van papegaaien). Video-opnames worden gemaakt om later te analyseren. Het totale onderzoek omvat onderzoek naar stress hormonen en gezondheid, met de onderdelen mentale staat (corticosteroïden bepaling uit mest), fysiologische onderzoek (voeropname en temperatuur dier) en gedragsonderzoek. De corticosteroïden bepalingen uit mest, zal worden gedaan in samenwerking met Universiteit Utrecht. Naast het onderzoek zal nog een ethische component ingebracht worden via de uitslag van een enquête onder privé papegaaihouders en dierentuinen. Voor het gedragsonderzoek zijn 1 of 2 studenten nodig en het kan interessant zijn om activiteitenbudgetten van de locatie te vergelijken met activiteitenbudgetten uit het wild.


This behavioural research is done on 2 groups of orange-winged Amazons (amazona amazonica), of which 1 group receives heat lamps. It is an order of the Dutch ministry, at the Erica research location in Drenthe (World of Birds, shelter for parrots). Video recordings are made for later analysis. The total research includes research into stress hormones and health, with the components mental state (determination of corticosteroids from manure), physiological research (feed intake and animal temperature) and behavioural research. The corticosteroid determinations from faeces will be done in collaboration with Utrecht University. In addition to the research, an ethical component will be introduced through the results of a survey among private parrot keepers and zoos. The behavioural research requires 1 or 2 students and it may be interesting to compare site activity budgets with wildlife activity budgets.
