Problemcontext Plasticsandmicroplasticsarecurrentlyenvironmentalissuesinagriculturalsoils.Althoughsomeplasticsaresoldasbiodegradable,researchersarestillfindingmicroplasticsandplasticscontainingpolybutyleneadipateterephthalate(PBAT)andpolylacticacid(PLA)inagriculturalsoilsseveralyearsaftertheirapplication.Low-densitypolyethylene(LDPE)plasticsarealsofoundinhighconcentrationsinthisenvironment.Previousresearchhasshownthepotentialofmicroorganismsdwellingintheearthworm`sguttoinitiatethedegradationofthesepolymers.Nevertheless,littleisknownabouttheplasticdegradationmechanismsandratesonceexposedtotheisolatedmicroorganisms.Inthisstudy,thesixcandidatestrainshavealreadybeenisolated,andweareinterestedinevaluatingthepotentialofthesemicroorganismstodegradedifferenttypesofplastics ResearchObjective/Question Aretheselectedandisolatedmicroorganismsfromtheearthworms`gutabletodegradePBAT-,PLA-,andUV-agedLDPEplastics?Ifyes,whichstrainsaremorepronetoattackwhichplastics?
