Description | Many species of coral reef fish have been shown to possess ultraviolet (UV) vision. UV vision has mostly been investigated in smaller prey fish, as bigger predatory fish are assumed to be UV-blind for several reasons. We hypothesize that this generalization may be overstated, and predict that some predators may also possess UV vision.
For this project, your job will be to search the literature for evidence of UV vision in both predatory and prey fish and evaluate in a meta-analysis the relationship between these two. This is a literature and data-based thesis with no lab- or fieldwork, so can be done remotely and offers the possibility to learn phylogenetical comparative methods.
