Description | In Burundi the PIP approach is used in the Elaga-patchouli project to motivate farmers for better and sustainable land management, and integrate patchouli production on their land. Patchouli is a crop used for essential oil (perfumes) and is a huge opportunity for these farmers. However, given that we cannot travel to Burundi now, we don’t know exactly how successful the PIP approach is in this project and to what extent farmers are genuinely motivated for better land management, or if the extra income gained by patchouli production is the main driver for them to better farmers.
In this SLM thesis research you are going to work together with the local team to develop a big survey about PIP and patchouli, aiming to understand better what farmers do, why they invest in their land, what can be improved etc. So the data collection will be done by the local team, and you will analyse the data, draw conclusions, and organize feedback meetings with the local staff and the farmers, based on your analysis and conclusions. Hence, a good opportunity to work with a nice project in Burundi, without having to travel! |
