Description The PIP approach as developed for African farming households aims at building a foundation for sustainable change. However, elements of PIP are equally applicable in the EU and our own countries, where we are facing an environmental crisis and the unsustainability of agriculture. Here also we need motivated farmers who feel responsible to be good stewards of the land and its natural resources, by investing in the resilience of their farm and landscape. These are they key aspects of the PIP approach, its foundation principles: motivation, stewardship, resilience.

In this SLM thesis research you are going to further explore these PIP foundation principles in your own country. To what extent are (EU) farmers motivated, good stewards of their land, having a vision of sustainability, and able to transform their way of farming? But also: how can other stakeholders become involved, how apply these principles to our environmental crisis, and can they drive sustainable change?

If you are inspired by the PIP approach, then this is your kind of research during the covid-19 crisis: come and discuss, develop your own ideas, and just start!
