Description Fishways have been constructed in many water ways to facilitate dispersal of fishes. Areas that used to be unaccessible for certain fish species now may serve as good habitats. Due to the construction of fishways, habitats may have been altered, not only for fish but also for other aquatic organisms. It also appeared that certain fish species are doing extremely well in those fish ways, that have become their main habitat. Furthermore, there are observations that some aquatic macroinvertebrate species also use those fish ways as an environment to live while not being present in the surroundings. This may thus lead to an increase in biodiversity. We like to test this idea in close cooperation with the waterboard Limbug in a fishway near Roermond. A comparison will be made of the species richness up- and downstream of the fishway and in the fishway.
Used skills Affinity with fieldwork, identification of macroinvertebrates
