Description Problem context
Current farming systems within this area are primarily large scale commercial systems producing stone-fruit for export and grapes for winemaking. Recent droughts have highlighted the vulnerability of these systems to climate change. The understanding and practice of more sustainable methods of farming are also limited in the area.

Research Objective/Question
The primary objective of this research would be to determine the current extent that sustainable or regenerative farming practices are understood and applied in the area by commercial farmers. The secondary objective would be to identify practices that can serve as points of entry for farmers who wish to transition to more sustainable farming methods.

What is expected from the student (type of research)
Students will be expected to conduct a literature review of sustainable/regenerative farming practices for perennial systems, as well as conduct interview based research with farmers and agricultural organizations of the area. A familiarity with the basics of the social sciences is preferred.
