Description Problem context
With the policy implementation of returning farmland to forests in the past 20 years in China, the ecological environment continues to improve. And the different ecological restoration process will bring about various ecological hydrological process especially in the ecotone. Therefore, research on the impacts of vegetation recovery on soil moisture in the ecotone at the eastern margin of Tibetan Plateau is of great practical significance to guaranteeing the regional, national and even Asian sustainable utilization of water resources.

Research Objective/Question
This study aims to analyze the vegetation recovery region, vegetation recovery pattern, vegetation recovery rate, and its spatio-temporal processes with methods such as the geostatistical methods, remote sensing retrieval and field survey. And then the spatial pattern of soil moisture is simulated and the laws of spatio-temporal change of soil moisture is further clarified. Finally, the relationship between spatio-temporal heterogeneity of soil moisture and vegetation recovery are analyzed at multiple scales from multiple perspectives, and the laws of the different modes of vegetation recovery on the spatio-temporal evolution of soil moisture are explored.

What is expected from the student (type of research): It is expected that the student work actively on:
- A literature review on the topic
- Remote sensing data process
- Model building based on the remote sensing data
- Fieldwork including soil moisture and vegetation surveys
- Statistical analyses work
