Description | Countries: Vientiane, Lao PDR
Host Institute: International Water Management Institute, Laos Period: Flexible (field work cannot take place from June to September due to poor road condition and access in the rainy seasons) This research will investigate closer interlinkages between food systems and the role of large scale infrastructure development, and how the latter shape socio ecological vulnerability and local community’s livelihoods. The need for food system transformation has also been brought to light globally while referring to environmental changes and local resilience. This research features the prominent role of water in (re)shaping this transformation. It places food system transformation within the context of hydropower development and transboundary water governance. Research Objective/Question As part of ongoing collaboration between Water Resources Management Group at Wageningen University and International Water Management Institute, we welcome a student to conduct (field) research while focusing on one of the following research questions: • How are local communities’ livelihood options and strategies (re)shaped by their access to information and decision making processes surrounding Resettlement Action Plan? • How do these various livelihood options and strategies contribute to and/or hinder the creation, sustenance and reproduction of different forms of food system, and how do these processes transformation across scales? What is expected from the student (type of research) Field work based internship. IWMI will cover field trip expenses (including translation services), but will not provide monthly allowance. |
