Host institute: Don Bosco Boys Home, Melanmarainadu , Virudhunagar District, Tamil Nadu Period: open Project type: thesis internship BIL Organization: The Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) are an International Religious Organization within the Catholic Church, founded by St. John Bosco to serve youngsters, especially those who are poor and marginalized. Background information One of the Don Bosco Boys Home is located in the village of Melanmarainadu , Virudhunagar District in Tamil Nadu, South India. In this region, rainfall is low and the soils are mainly black loamy soil (locally known as Karisal ) and in some places red soil. Cotton, pulses, oil seeds and millets, crops that do not require much irrigation, are the main crops in the area. Topic The Don Bosco Boys Home owns 55 acres (about 23 ha) on their campus that the want to bring under cultivation to generate income to support their orphanage as well as other work that they have initiated for the well being of the people in the region. Objective of the study • Investigate the possibilities to introduce dry land farming on the Don Bosco Boys Home Campus in the village of Melanmarainadu |
