Description In the Western part of Rwanda the “Water for Virungas” project (W4V) is has recently started with the PIP-approach. A first WU student has already done his thesis research, and W4V is now looking for a follow-up student interested in both physical and social aspects of Sustainable Land Management.

W4V works in tow watersheds in several villages with a local team, with supervision from WENR experts. This is a region with huge erosion problems where research is needed to better understand opportunities to turn the tide of continued land degradation, and work with local farmers and institutions.

Specific topics are still open and depend on the interest of the student, but there are opportunities for more social research (surveys) or more physical research (erosion, flooding). What we request are enthusiastic independent students with the right knowledge and analytical/writing skills related to SLM.
