Description | Dense layers of duckweed are frequently observed in ditches in the Netherlands. Due to this dense layer exchange of oxygen between air and water is blocked, resulting in anoxic conditions in those ditches with all negative consequence for life. Removal of duckweed might be a good measure to keep the oxygen condition at a minimum required level. How frequent must the removal be applied to obtain this situation? A duckweed growth model has recently be developed (in Matlab grind), and can be used to evaluate the effects of removal on duckweed growth and to determine an optimal removal strategy. |
