Description | Molecular processes and structures in living cells are often so complex, that quantitative modeling becomes indispensable to properly describe and understand them. You will learn how models are constructed from available data and how these models are implemented using mathematics and computer simulations. We are e.g.for example interested in how microtubules, basic components of the cytoskeleton, organize themselves in space and time to form functional structures such as the plant-specific cortical array, the pre-prophase band and the phragmoplast, and how these structures in concert with regulatory proteins perform key roles in the growth and development of cells. Other interests are the architecture of the plant cell wall, the mechanics of cell growth and Auxin transport. |
Used skills | An active interest in modeling and a willingness to put your mathematical knowledge to work. |
Requirements | Mathematics 1-3 (MAT-14803,14903,15003), Modelling Biological Systems (PPS-21306) |
