Description The System of Rice Intensification (SRI) is a novel method of rice cultivation that is claimed to be more productive, more efficient and more ecologically sustainable. These claims have been controversial; however, there is a lack of firm evidence to confirm or refute these claims.

What is clear is that SRI has attracted a lot of attention and seemingly a lot of interest from farmers and non-governmental organisations, and even policy-makers and some scientists.

Researchers in the Technology and Agrarian Development Group and the Development Economics Group are engaged in a 4-year project to discover just what is happening in this fascinating innovation system. Is SRI really spreading as far and as fast as has been claimed? If so, how are farmers adapting SRI to suit their circumstances?

Your MSc thesis project could contribute to this research programme. We are looking for up to two ambitious, self-reliant students to carry out some village-level studies and household surveys in India's northeastern state of Tripura.

Interested? Please contact us to discuss the opportunity.

This project is particularly suitable for students on the MID and MDR programmes. Students from MPS, MAB, MES, MOA etc. are also welcome to enquire.
