Description Potato dry rot disease is currently the most important cause of potato postharvest losses worldwide. Dry rot in potato is caused by the soil-borne fungi Fusarium species complex. In previous projects more than 300 wild Solanum genotypes were screened for their Fusarium resistance, among which several species showed complete resistance to Fusarium dry rot. In this project, the spectrum of resistance and the genetic source of resistance (QTL mapping) will be studied
Used skills This project involves a wide range of different techniques, from in vitro propagation of plants, greenhouse work, fungal propagation, plant disease test, and molecular analysis such as quantitative PCR (qPCR).
Requirements Interest in plant molecular biology and phytopathology
