Description | During evolution, new genotypes may affect the environment in various ways, including the depletion of resources and the excretion of metabolites and toxins. These new conditions may present niches to which later genotypes may adapt. We study the importance of such evolutionary feedback mechanisms using laboratory evolution experiments with the fungus Aspergillus nidulans. |
Used skills | In vivo evolution experiments; strain construction; competition experiments and assays of fitness components under various environmental conditions. |
Requirements | Basic microbiological and molecular techniques, and background in evolutionary and ecological theory. |
